If you send an X-ray, they can also check the bone level around your teeth, the condition of the roots, and signs of infection that are not visible in a photograph alone. Photographs cannot show everything a dentist needs to know; some findings, such as early decay between teeth or the exact bone level for implant planning, only become clear once you are examined in the clinic.
